Sanford Sucks

And a lot of other reasons why he should never be allowed to become president

Sanford Nukes Self in the Nads

I was going to hold off on really starting this blog.  But I can’t pass the opportunity up.

By now you probably know that Mark Sanford went to Argentina on a booty call.  Some people are shocked, some aren’t.  Personally, I’m happy that he’s doing this to himself.

I searched for Sanford on Twitter, left that page up for a few minutes, and suddenly it said there were over 5,000 new results to show me.  Obviously I didn’t read all of those.  But from what I did read the vast majority seem to be people who in one way or another are happy that Sanford is ruining any chance he has of gaining future political office.

Let’s take a look at what he actually said during the press conference earlier today.

First, he brought his family into the conversation  in what I saw as a pathetic attempt to earn symapthy points.  I doubt there are many people who don’t already have an opinion about Sanford so I really don’t see the point in this move.  He attempted the same strategy with “people of faith.”  Again, pointless.

There was lots of apologizing.  At least he knew he needed to do that, so I’ll give him some credit.  Throw some choked back crying in there (which looked really staged to me) and you have a classic B movie apology scene.

He admited he was unfaithful to his wife.  Which really makes me wonder what he was thinking.  Has Sanford not noticed what happened to other political figures who decided to cheat on a spouse?

He asked for a bubble of privacy from the press, not for him but for his family.  Fat chance there.

The one positive thing was that he said he’s resigning as the chair of the Republican Governer’s Association.  Let’s hope that’s the start of a trend of Sanford resignations.

The first question asked was if Sanford and his wife was seperated.  His answer?

In a formal sense we’re not.

What does that even mean?  He also informed us that his wife has known about this for 5 months and that his family knew about the trip.

What really gets me though is that he says this was the only time he was unfaithful to his wife.  I find that hard to believe out of an 8 year relationship where he’s gone to see the woman 3 times.

He also avoided a question about if he intentionally mislead his staff.  Sanford said that he threw out the Appalachian trip has one place where he could be going.  I say he did it in a way that made it sound like he was definitely going there on purpose so his staff would report it if asked.

He then  left the podium rather rudely and completly ignored a reporter asking if he was going to resign as governer.  Let’s hope so.
